CCI to decide relief packages: Prime Minister
KARACHI (September 06, 2010): Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the Council of Common Interests, in its meeting to be held on Monday, will take decision regarding allocations, disbursement and distribution of relief packages to the flood affected people in all provinces.



FBR study advocates wealth tax restoration
ISLAMABAD (September 06, 2010): A latest study of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has strongly proposed restoration of wealth tax on expensive properties owned by the elite class of Pakistan. It is learnt that the FBR analysis supported restoration of wealth tax to discourage concentration of wealth along with generation of huge revenue from the rich people of the society.



Rs 100 billion from PSDP funds may be diverted to provinces
ISLAMABAD (September 06, 2010): The Federal government is considering to divert to provinces Rs 100 billion earmarked under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2010-11 for early relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees due to poor response from the world community, Business Recorder has learnt. The government had earmarked Rs 280 billion for federal component of PSDP 2010-11.


Clearance to six RPPs: Pepco under immense pressure from Ministry
ISLAMABAD (September 06, 2010): The Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) is reportedly under immense pressure from top brass of the Ministry of Water and Power to give clearance to six rental power projects (RPPs) whose Rental Service Agreements are not yet effective, sources in the Ministry told Business Recorder.


During August: offshore investors contribute $41.32 million
KARACHI (September 06, 2010): A healthy inflow of $41.32 million of foreign investors' portfolio investment (FIPI) was witnessed at the local equity market during the month of August 2010. According to National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) data, the foreign investors remained net buyers of shares throughout the week with a cumulative inflow of $7.958 million during the week ended on Sep 3, 2010.

LONDON (September 06, 2010): Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed insisted Sunday he had been misled by an undercover reporter and was only repeating allegations he had read about when he said his team-mates were corrupt. The News of the World newspaper said Hameed had "sensationally confirmed" its report last week that some Pakistan players had accepted money to fix aspects of the final Test match against England in London.

US denies taxpayer funds to bail out Kabul Bank
WASHINGTON (September 06, 2010): The US Treasury Department denied media reports Saturday that American taxpayer funds would be put towards bailing out Afghanistan's beleaguered Kabul Bank. The White House said the allegations were not true and pointed to a statement from Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin that said the bank's troubles were "an Afghan issue."
